The MUET  reading comprehension paper ( Paper 3) lasts 1 hour 30 minutes. It comprises 6 reading texts and 45 multiple choice questions. the questions may ask you to identify the main idea, supporting details, the author's attitude and tone, guess the meaning of words from context, draw conclusions as well as make inferences.

        First, skim through the text and get a rough idea as to what the text is about. Read the questions to find out what kind of information is required. Then, scan the text for the information you need.
In order to answer the questions well, you should have the following skills:

  • Guessing meaning from context.
  • Scanning and skimming.
  • Distinguishing facts from opinions.
  • Identifying main idea sentences and supporting details.
  • Making inferences and drawing conclusions.
  • Paraphrasing.
  • Summarising.
  • Identifying author's attitude and tone.
  • Interpreting non-linear texts.
